Classic India Tour Itinerary
This popular 10 day, 9 night itinerary includes The Golden Triangle along with Khajuraho and Varanasi.You will see magnificent Mughal architecture in the north, the erotic sculptures and temples of Khajuraho and the Ganges River in the holy city of Varanasi. This will be a truly rewarding architectural, cultural,and historical experience. For the first time visitor to India, this is a must tour. This tour can be extended.
India Tour Length: 10 days
Day 1: Delhi
On arrival, meet and assist at the airport. Transfer to the hotel.
Day 2: Delhi
After breakfast, go on a full day tour of Old and New Delhi (English speaking guide will meet you at the hotel lobby). Visit the Red Fort, an exquisite example of Mughal architecture, Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, bustling Chandri Chowk bazaar, Raj Ghat, a memorial to Mahtama Gandi, Qutub Minar, a soaring tower of victory dating back to 1199 and the Lotus Temple, a Bahai House of Worship. Drive past the Parliament House, India Gate and if time permits visit Delhi Haat (Open air handicraft exhibition). Evening is free for shopping (optional).
Day 3: Delhi / Varanasi
In the morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Varanasi. Varanasi is the ultimate pilgrimage site for Hindus. Upon arrival, transfer and check into the hotel. In the evening, go down to the Ganges River to observe the Hindu ceremony of Aarti.
Day 4: Varanasi
Enjoy an early morning boat ride on the Ganges River and a visit to the ghats. Immerse yourself in the absorbing spectacle of the devout pilgrims. Return to the hotel for breakfast. Take a full day city tour including Sarnath where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon.
Day 5: Varanasi / Khajuraho
After your breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Khajuraho. On arrival, transfer to the hotel. In the evening, take in the Sound and Light Show.
Day 6: Khajuraho
After breakfast, take a full day guided tour of the Jain and Hindu Temples of Khajuraho. These temples were built over 200 years from 950 to 1150 and are famous for their erotic art.
Day 7: Khajuraho / Jhansi / Agra
After an early breakfast, drive to Jhansi by surface (3 Hr drive). On arrival, board the train to Agra. On arrival, transfer to the hotel in Agra.
Day 8: Agra / Jaipur
After breakfast, visit the Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, and Agra Fort built by Emperor Akbar in 1565. Depart for Jaipur by surface (235 Km, 5 Hr drive). En route visit Fatehpur Sikri, built in red sandstone by Akbar the Great. It was abandoned due to water problems and is now popularly known as the ghost city. Upon arrival in Jaipur, check into the hotel.
Day 9: Jaipur
Start your day with an excursion to the majestic AMER FORT (10 Km drive from the city). Take an Elephant ride to the top of Amer Hill where Amer Fort is located (please note that you have to reach Amer Hill at 7 Am to experience the Elephant Ride). In the afternoon, visit City Palace, the Observatory and drive pass Wind Palace. In the evening, you can take an optional shopping tour.
Day 10: Jaipur / Delhi / Depart
Have your breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast depart for Delhi by surface. On arrival, transfer to the international airport for your onward journey.
